To Those Who Say the Obvious Cannot Be Understood

Mubin, one of the adjectives of the Quran, comes from the root "bayan" (statement) and means " clear, clearly showing ." These verses, which express the Quran's clarity, respond to those who claim that the Quran cannot be understood on its own.

(15:1)

Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear(mubin) Qur'an.

(12:1)

Alif. Lam. Ra. These are the verses of the clear(mubin) Book.

(43:2) (44:2)

By the Clear Book,

(27:1)

These are the verses of the Qur'an and a Clear Book;

(28:2)(26:2)

These are the verses of the Clear Book.

(5:15)

O followers of the Book! indeed Our Apostle has come to you making clear to you much of what you concealed of the Book and passing over much; indeed, there has come to you light and a clear Book from Allah;

(29:49)

Nay, but it is clear Ayat, in the breasts of those who have been given knowledge. And none but the wrongdoers(zalimun) deny Our Ayat.(proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.)

(4:174)

O mankind! Certainly, a proof has come to you from your Lord, and We have sent down to you a manifest light.(the Quran)

(24:34)

Certainly We have sent down to you manifest signs(clear ayah) and a description of those who passed before you, and an advice for the Godwary(Muttaqun).

(65:11)

a Messenger, who recites to you the Verses of Allah (the Quran) containing clear explanations, that He may take out, those who believe and do righteous good deeds from the darkness (of polytheism and disbelief) to the light (of Monotheism and true Faith). And whosoever believes in Allah and performs righteous good deeds, He will admit him into Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), to dwell therein forever. Allah has indeed granted for him an excellent provision.

The Quran is Explanatory

In the verses below, it is said that the Quran, in addition to being obvious, explains everything and guides us to the truth.

(16:89)

The day We raise in every nation a witness against them from among themselves, We shall bring you as a witness against these. We have sent down the Book to you as a clarification of all things and as guidance, mercy and good news for the Muslims.

(17:89)

And indeed We have fully explained to mankind, in this Quran, every kind of similitude, but most mankind refuse (the truth and accept nothing) but disbelief.

(17:41)

We have explained in this Quran in various ways, that they may remember, but it only adds to their rebellion.

(11:1-2)

Alif-Lam-Ra.(This is) a Book, the Verses whereof are perfected, and then explained in detail from One (Allah), Who is All-Wise (Hakimin )and Well-Acquainted (All Aware-Khabirin).

(Saying) worship none but Allah. Verily, I am unto you from Him(Allah) a warner and a bringer of glad tidings.

(18:54)

And indeed We have put forth every kind of example in this Quran, for mankind. But, man is ever more quarrelsome(argumentative) than anything.

(6:105)

Thus We explain variously the Verses so that they (the disbelievers) may say: "You have studied" and that We may make the matter clear for the people who have knowledge.

(30:58)

And indeed We have set forth for mankind, in this Quran every kind of parable. But if you (O Muhammad SAW) bring to them any sign or proof, (as an evidence for the truth of your Prophethood), the disbelievers are sure to say (to the believers): "You follow nothing but falsehood, and magic."

(39:27)

And indeed We have put forth for men, in this Quran every kind of similitude in order that they may remember.

(59:21)

Had We sent down this Quran on a mountain, you would surely have seen it humbling itself and rending asunder by the fear of Allah. Such are the parables which We put forward to mankind that they may reflect.

(25:50)

And indeed We have distributed it (rain or water) amongst them in order that they may remember the Grace of Allah, but most men refuse (or deny the Truth or Faith) and accept nothing but disbelief or ingratitude.

(20:113)

And thus We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur'an and have diversified therein the warnings that perhaps they will avoid [sin] or it would cause them remembrance.

(86:13)

Verily! This (the Quran) is the Word that separates (the truth from falsehood, and commands strict legal laws for mankind to cut the roots of evil).

(6:114)

[Say]"Shall I seek a judge other than Allah while it is He Who has sent down unto you the Book (The Quran), explained in detail." Those unto whom We gave the Scripture know that it is revealed from your Lord in truth. So be not you of those who doubt.

(7:174)

Thus do We explain the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) in detail, so that they may turn.

(6:126)

And this is the Path of your Lord (the Quran and Islam) leading Straight. We have detailed Our Revelations for a people who take heed.

From the verses above, we see that the Quran provides detailed, comprehensive, and diverse explanations of all necessary religious matters, and that the Quran itself speaks for itself. Saying, " The Quran refers to other books, the Quran is the primary book, and we learn details from other books " means opposing and ignoring all these verses . Similarly, explanations such as, "We cannot understand religion from the Quran" contradict the Quran. According to the Quran's explanations, believers learn their religion from the Quran. When we examine the Quran, we see that all the necessary details are included in the Quran .

For example, the Quran even includes details such as the right of those who are in dire straits and cannot find anything else to eat, provided they do not overdo it, to eat carrion, blood, pork, and animals slaughtered in the name of other than Allah, which are normally forbidden. (Al-Baqarah, verse 173) Indeed, Allah has forbidden you carrion, blood, pork, and animals slaughtered in the name of other than Allah. But whoever is compelled to eat, provided he does not act excessively and does not exceed the limit, there is no blame on him. Indeed, Allah is All-Forgiving, All-Merciful. )

In a matter related to Hajj, the Quran also mentions what those who cannot shorten their hair due to a head disease should do. (Al-Baqarah 196) And complete the Hajj and Umrah for Allah. And if you are prevented, then offer whatever offering is feasible. And do not shave your heads until the offering reaches its destination. Whoever of you is sick or has a head ailment, then he must offer a ransom of fasting, charity, or sacrifice. And whoever wishes to enjoy the Umrah until you are secure, then he must offer whatever offering is feasible. But whoever is unable to offer a sacrifice should fast three days during the Hajj and seven days upon his return, making ten days in all. And this is for those whose families do not live near the Sacred Mosque. And be mindful of Allah, and know that Allah is severe in punishment. )

It is also stated in the Quran that marrying your mother, sister, or aunt is forbidden. ( An-Nisa, 23) Forbidden to you are your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your paternal aunts, your sisters' daughters, your sisters' daughters, your wet nurses, your wet nurses, your wet nurses, your wives' mothers, and your stepdaughters in your homes with whom you have had sexual intercourse .

The nightly prayer, which was only obligatory for our Prophet, is also mentioned in the Quran. ( Al-Isra, verse 79) Take a break from sleep at night, especially for you! (Thus) your Lord will surely raise you to a praiseworthy station .

The Quran also mentions events that could only have been observed during the time of our Prophet, such as the imminent victory of the Romans in the war. ( Ar-Rum, verses 2-5 ) The Romans were defeated in the nearest place (to the Arabs). However, after their defeat, they will be victorious within a few years. Before and after, the command (authority) belongs only to Allah. On that day, the believers will rejoice in Allah's help. He helps whom He wills. And He is All-Powerful, All-Merciful. )

The examples above and many more are proof that the Quran provides all the details.

How many people will be forced to eat only the food forbidden in the Quran, such as pork and carrion, and be unable to find any other halal food?

The number of people who will shorten their hair because of an illness is not even one in a thousand. In other words, the Quran contains a detail that only one in a thousand people will encounter once in their lifetime.

The repulsiveness of attempting to marry one's mother, sister, or aunt is widely known, a repulsive act that not even one in a hundred thousand people would attempt. The Quran does not state, "No one would attempt to marry their mother," but this is clearly stated.

Why doesn't the Quran, which states that prohibitions such as the Saturday ban are imposed on Jews, specify all prohibitions for its believers?

Is it possible that the Quran guides a man who shortens his hair due to illness, but does not explain to women, if there are detailed prohibitions regarding clothing and other matters?

Is it possible that the Quran explains the permission we mentioned above for those in need, but does not explain the prohibition of mussels and shrimp?

Is it possible that the obligatory worship specific to the Prophet is explained, but all the worships obligatory for all Muslims are not included in the Quran?

Although we possess a Book sent by God, there are those who claim that it does not contain all the knowledge of religion . Can it ever be imagined that what God has revealed could be completed by the explanations and commentaries in books written by humans? If we needed more information for the sake of religion than the Quran currently contains, God could have made it two or three times thicker. This would have saved us from needing other sources. If the Quran is inadequate in explaining religion, why was it revealed at all? Has God only revealed a portion of religion, and for the rest, we are dependent on others—people who are not even mentioned in the Quran?

Let us continue to think about these issues as we read the following verses...

(31:27)

And if all the trees on the earth were pens and the sea (were ink wherewith to write), with seven seas behind it to add to its (supply), yet the Words of Allah would not be exhausted. Verily, Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise.

(6:115)

And the Word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and in justice. None can change His Words. And He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.

(5:101)

O you who believe! Ask not about things which, if made plain to you, may cause you trouble. But if you ask about them while the Quran is being revealed, they will be made plain to you. Allah has forgiven that, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Forbearing.

(19:64)

[O Gabriel, tell the Prophet,] ‘We do not descend except by the command of your Lord. To Him belongs whatever is before us and whatever is behind us and whatever is in between that, and your Lord does not forget

(29:51)

Is it not sufficient for them that We have sent down to you the Book (the Quran) which is recited to them? Verily, herein is mercy and a reminder (or an admonition) for a people who believe.

(25:33)

And no example or similitude do they bring, but We reveal to you the truth, and the better explanation thereof.

(75:19)

17. It is for Us to collect it and to give you (O Muhammad SAW) the ability to recite it (the Quran),

18. And when We have recited it to you, then follow you its (the Quran's) recital.

19. Then it is for Us (Allah) to make it clear to you,
